View Full Version : Batch renaming files in a folder from one extension to another

Hi all,

My family have a whole lot of .mp4 files they've converted. To put them on their Cellphones they need them to be renamed to .m4a

Is there any way that I can do this with a batch script that looks for all files in a folder (the current one?) and then renames the .mp4's to .m4a's?

Select all, press F2 to rename the first file, then give it a name like filename.m4a, the other files will be renamed to 1-2-3 etc.

Sorry Speedy, that didnt work, only one of them actually gets renamed

Just for the record, the names will contain spaces and occasionally brackets ()...

Paulw, that looks good, I'll download it now and give it a whirl :)

Cheers guys

*Am open to any other suggestions in the mean time*

I just open a cmd prompt, go to the folder with the files to rename and type:

ren *.mp4 *.m4a

XP powertoys would most probably have something in it for this
