What? Under Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Sound does it show a driver(s) for your sound card? If not or there is a yellow excalamation mark then you will need to reinstall the driver.

Under computer management, there is an exclamation mark under an " unknown device".
I have never seen this before, now when I select properties for that item it gives me some options, under driver I see, I can click on driver details if I do so, all I get is " not drivers are required or loaded..." the other options I don't want to click until I know what this is.
Can you explain to me please.

Find out what the brand/model of your motherboard is..

What else in the device manager has a ! beside it? Anything else?

I would get Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html)

Install it run it, and see what it brings up for the brand/model of your motherboard.

Post what it says back here.

Normally sound drivers are installed with an exe file. Not an inf file.

Does this (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=431077) look like your PC?

And does this picture (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodinfoCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=431077&os=228)

Look like yours Para?

If it looks exactly like yours, the first link I gave should work with your soundcard.

The mobo looks like its an Mb manufacturer name: ASUS A7V8X-LA

And according to the Belarc log u posted.

512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: ASUSTek Computer INC. Kelut 2.02

Is what it says here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00069442&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=431077)

Thank you so much,
I have installed the driver listed on your last response, however still showing not device under control panel, sound properties/volume.
I went into My computer/comp management/services and application/ not sound listed in there.
as I mentioned on my original posting I actually had some item listed there, and there was and exclamation mark attached to one of the item listed there " unknown item.
What do you think?

Is this unknown device still showing in device manager?

Did u reboot after u install the soundcard drivers from the link I gave?

If u go to sounds in control panel and the audio tab, can u change the default device to anything now?

If so, what?

Have u got some kind of USB audio soundcard as well?? Besides the onboard soundcard?

Take the lid off. Note the model number of the motherboard printed on it.
Google it. Go to the manufacturers website and download the sound driver for that specific model of motherboard.
Delete the one you installed and any unknown devices.
Reboot the PC, Windows should detect new hardware and start to do the driver install wizard. Point it to the one you downloaded (or run setup if it came with a setup file).

If WIndows doesn't detect new hardware check if it is enabled in the BIOS first.

with regards to your last questions:
1 -Yes the link and everything you sent me is right, that is my computer.
2 - With regards to the " unknown" not that is not there any more, nothing related to sound is listed there. ( computer manager/services and applications)
3 - Control panel/ audio tab - I cannot change anything there. Volume tab indicates there is not device, and hardware tab shows a list, what is that for? I selected realtek AC97... however closed the window went back in but nothing changed.
4 - "Have u got some kind of USB audio soundcard as well?? Besides the onboard soundcard?", I have not added any hardware to this computer ever since I bough it new.

Hello again,
I have done what speedy asked for last time, and now my comp. manager is showing one item with an exclamation mark, ( unknown), when I go to PROPERTIES/DRIVER DTAILS: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\LVUSBSTA.SYS.
when I try t update driver:
MICROSOFT KERNEL AUDIO SPLITER
CANNOT INSTALL THIS HARDWARE...NO SIGNATURE WAS PRESENT
What can I do???:horrified

Speedy Gonzales
26-12-2006, 11:41 AM
Hmm, it looks like that LVUSBSTA.SYS belongs to a Logitech Quickcam.

Which has NOTHING to do with a sound card.

Have u got a Logitech Quickcam?

Delete ALL sound card entries in device manager.

Uninstall any sound card entries in add/remove programs. Then reboot.

Then reinstall the drivers off the HP site I posted before.

Then reboot again.See what appears after u boot back into Windows.

And if u downloaded the zip file from the HP site I posted before, did u unzip it? And did u run the exe file, if there's an exe file in it??

DON'T use the inf file in that zip file, if there's an exe file in it.

Good day,
Well thank you again, I have done what Gonzales has suggested and after a lot of reading, not understanding a lot, I found this: Description: lvusbsta.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 22016 bytes (50% of all occurrence), 19968 bytes, 39424 bytes.
The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The program has no visible window. File lvusbsta.sys is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. There is no detailed description of this service. File lvusbsta.sys is not a Windows core file. lvusbsta.sys seems to be a compressed file. Therefore the technical security rating is 14% dangerous.
- - Yes I have a camera but never had a problem with it int he past.
- - Also have noticed that there is not icon in my task bar.
- - I did go to the HP website and downloading and installed file.

I believe I know the problem. Because I have an a720n and there was ONE hardware device that couldn't be detected, not by any of the drivers on the HP site, NOR HP themselves. I had to come across this just randomly, and I think this is what you are looking for:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

These are the High Definition Audio Drivers for Realtek, and why no one at HP knows about it, is a mystery to me. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL YOUR WINDOWS UPDATES INSTALLED BEFORE INSTALLING (or else your computer will freeze). Try it out and let me know how it works. asdpoipoi-1@yahoo.com (my temporary email address) -Brad
