How do I open and read *.dbx files?

They can be one of several types. Most likely though is that they're Outlook Express mail folders. Therefore try use Outlook Express to open them. Right-click, Open with... etc

Thanks Greg, but how do I open them?

I am trying to recover "saved" e-mail files from C:\Documents and Settings\Jack\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E136064B-47C7-4B6B-8AD6-45CBABC728D9}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

I can get to the dbx file, but can't open them

What options do you get when you right-click the file in Windows Explorer?

You need to import them into OE, File/Import/Messages/OE6 or whatever/select store folder..etc or use DBXtract

Only way that I know of is with DBXtract, as Snoopy says. Actually, DBXtract won't open them, it extracts all the emails from within that file so that you can view them in OE.
