What hard drive cloning or imaging software have people used to clone or image your entire hard drive(including the recovery partition) to cd or dvd? AFter you put the image on the new hard drive, did everything work 100%? I want one that Isn't free because i don't wanna use free software to do this very important process.

Symantec Ghost is awesome :) Especially the Corporate Edition, for package deployment & development.. but thats a lil over the top for what you want

Acronis True Image is a great program, but I usually use ghost because it is convenient being able to run it off a floppy.

doesnt' make any sense...........what the hell does it matter if the program is free so long as it does its job......theres a HUGE number of free programs out there on the web which are quite superior to their 'paid' equivalents.....

I use Ghost 2003 personally.

I don't use Acronis and have never tried it. I haven't heard anything much against it either.

The recovery partition would be hidden to the average person when booting any version of windows but Ghost allows you to copy 1 hard drive to another including all partitions assuming the drive you are copying from is the same size or more than what you copy to.

With Ghost you can copy just one partition if you want and you can restore individual files.

I don't even have Acronis on my computer. I did not reinstall it after I did a full reformat and reinstall of all my programs a few months ago. I found that the boot CD was all I needed to do both backup and recover my data. It is a brilliant program.

Nah.......ghost will image onto a smaller drive so long as theres room to contain all the data True. I Used to Ghost Drive C from an 80 (which is split in to 3 drives) to a 30. Now I Ghost three drives from a Maxtor which reads 76 to a Samsung which reads 74.
