View Full Version : Network Time Server on LAN

I am wanting to run a small, resource friendly, time server on one machine so that I can sync time from another. The "server" machine is running Win XP Pro SP2. Is there such a thing available (free), or is there something already in XP to do this (I have a feeling there might be... but not too sure).

The XP machine is connected to the net and the time is updated every day or week or something, so is usually correct. The client machine (running XBMC :D) can sync time from a specified IP address. The time sync on the XB works fine via the net, but I was hoping to somehow put a time server of sorts on my PC to update it from that.

Any suggestions? :D

Cheers,
Mike.

According to this site (http://nettime.sourceforge.net/) Win XP has a network time client (NetTime) included.
Theres more info on this page (http://nettime.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html)
Heres a list (http://ntp.isc.org/bin/view/Servers/StratumTwoTimeServers) of time servers to sync into

From the second link I gave you
NetTime is a time synchronization client for Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000. Its main claim to fame is that it is small, simple and unobtrusive. It can synchronize with servers running the NTP and RFC868 protocols, and can also function as a server so that other computers can synchronize with the computer running NetTime.

Now to get my regional settings correct on the XBMC as it's adjusting back for daylight savings (so 7:26pm instead of 8:26pm etc.)

Thanks :)
