Have discovered that xtra dont maintain a news server any more. Investigting other providers for this service which had been used to keep ontouch with some slovak events (via news groups.)

Seems as though no one asks about news servers these days...

Any one here have suggestion for news servers or alternatives I could investigate?

Appriciate any input.

Ihug has newsgroups but I dont think you can log in unless you're an Ihug user.

I maybe wrong. You could try accessing it using Outlook Express.

Thanks for that Speedy, gave that a try but looks like I would need to be an account holder for ihug and some others. Have talked to Orcon, have free email with them and they are going to get back to me if I can access their news server as a "free service."

Any alternative tools / apps / approaches I could investigate if I already now the news group we wish to subscribe to?

You could try this (http://groups.google.com/) which is web based.

Or this (http://groups.yahoo.com/) which looks like its web based as well.

I think Google Groups (which Speedy linked to) is a good option because it lets you access all of the news groups. I don't think Yahoo Groups lets you do that though. You create your own group and people can join it - it isn't like news groups.
