From windows 98 if you go
start => programs => accessories => system tools => system information => tools => system file checker

& run, I have run it a few times if comes up with the same following corrupted files

mssip32.dll
mssign32.dll
softpub.dll
crytui.dll
crynet.dll
crytxt.dll
msoss.dll
setupx.dll
mscat.dll

and puts them in windows\helpdesk\sfc

does anybody know anything about why they get corrupted?

Hi;
I had the same problem when I was having crashes with IE5.
I was able to replace (using SFC) some of the files (using my WIN98 CD, but not the CRYPT... files. The solution, is to reinstall IE5 using it's SETUP program. As per Microcrap's instructions on their web site.

Good luck.
