What would be a better video card for someone on a budget? I have read some reviews for 6600GT vs 6800GS and people reccomend the 6800GS however I have noticed that the review is good because it is a 256mb/256bit card but the ones I am looking at are both 128mb/128bit cards, would the 6800GS still be better, also are some brands of card better than others?

If you're on a REALLY tight budget, get a not-so-good, extremely low-end PCI card. :D

Get the 6800GS, it has more pixel pipelines that the GT regardless of whether you have 128 or 256 bit versions of each card. I did a google search and the general consensus is that the GS is a better card.

Take a look here (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=6800GS+VS+6600GT&btnG=Search&meta=)

My monitor is 17" CRT but I am thinking of getting a similair size LCD (maybe widescreen) I like my resolution at 1280x1024 but I would go higher if i could

I'd stick with what you have then and save up?, you wont get a card to drive 12x10 at decent rates for $200 and if you upgrade the monitor to LCD, the native res will also be 12x10.

My card is getting tried, and I'm looking to upgrade also.!

I would only run games at 1024x728 normally anyway, I thought you meant on desktop, and my MX440 just doesnt cut it anymore :D it wont even run a new game

get a 7600GS 256MB agp.
~$250
the pcie version is only $200 so the price difference is alright.
7600GS is a good card if your in the $200-300 pricerange on either agp or pcie.

I am about to sell my 6800GT 256MB AGP, Message me if you are interested.

Faster than a 7600GS AGP but slower than a 7600GT

Unless you take High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDR) into account at which point the 6800GT becomes very underwhelming. This is an issue with the 6000 series in general however. Not all games use it yet.

About the 6800GS how much does it cost I mean average? My card is ASUS 9550. Is it crap, I mean I can't play games in deep details. Is it high time to change the graphics card too?

Depends on if the 7600GS comes with DDR2 or DDR3 ram. If it is a cheaper DDR2 model, game over for the 7600GS it will get slaughtered by the 6800GT/GS (that has DDR3) every time including HDR. (most cheap 7600gs's are DDR2)

If it has DDR3 (like the Galaxy) then it will be a probable slight win for the 7600GS as it is much closer to being a 7600GT.

Doing a quick google, it is hard to find a exact comparison, but in the link below you can see the difference in F.E.A.R between the 7600GS/GT and 6600GT.
http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=547&p=5

We all know the 6800GT/GS kills the **6600GT** which is keeping close ish to the the 7600GS, so you should be able to use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

6800GT/GS will be the better option in most cases (at the same price).

DirectX 10 is a Vista only thing - its got nothing to do with what graphics card you have.

I think you are meaning this:

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_nvidia_hdcp_support/

for whether a graphics card has this capabilty. And the quick answer is so far none of them do.
