I have a Dell Laptop that use a dell made part that connects to the s-video output on the back. This gives the laptop the ability to output s-video along with S/Pdif output.

The problem i have is when i have the audio coming out my audio receiver (using the s/Pdif output) the laptop still plays sounds through the laptop speakers.

How can i make it so that if this special part isn't plugged in that the laptop plays through the speakers, but if the part is plugged in then it turns off the laptop speakers and only outputs it through the S/PDIF?

thanks

Hi, I'm not sure myself, however, the software the comes with the laptop to manage the digi output, should manage the whole audio package, is their not a speaker environment setup, what chipset does the laptop use for audio? Check the device manager for ID

It says sigmatel.
But there are no settings to stop anything like this..................
Nothing really sticks out in the sound control area either........
