I'm having problems accessing a few selective websites, mostly MS related - MSN, hotmail, microsoft.com, etc. I'm running Windows XP. The problem is that when certain sites are attempting to access, the browser times out, never gets there and often displays a white screen stating "done" at the bottom left.

Issue remains even if firewall is disabled. I can access the websites on another computer using the same network.

Help!

Whats the firewall? XP's, or Zonealarm, or Nortons?

Hmmm sounds to me like it could be a hosts file issue... look in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and see if theres any entries that have MS related stuff in them...

Welcome to PressF1 dem123 :)

Have you scanned for Spyware & Adware??

I sincerely appreciate the responses. I checked the host files by right clicking the start buton and exploring to the c://windows/system32/drivers/etc location, no blocked websites in the list. Should I be checking by some other method?

I ran spyware/adware scan and still no positive results in fixing the problem.

I'm using Norton Internet Security. Have tried to also use a netscape browser. None of this has helped the problem.

Am I missing anything? Anyone aware of other potentail fixes?

Thanks,

NIS has a habit of turning off its proxy service. Go to control panel / admin tools / services. Which is why I removed it. It got annoying.

See if the Symantec / Norton Proxy service is disabled. Double click on the entry.

If it is restart it.

Norton Internet Security is a big PAN!!! Disable it! & then try & see if you can access the MS sites ok from there.
