Sick of slow broadband? Want a faster connection? The power of Google is here to help, with Web Accelerator! (http://webaccelerator.google.com/)

Helps especially when you are throttled on your not-so-fast broadband connection. :D

Hmmm:

http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Web-Accelerator

Especially considering all it does is:

"Rather than your computer relying on the DNS servers provided by your ISP, Google Web Accelerator redirects all domain lookups to Google servers, using Google as your proxy. The theory here seems to be that because Google is already caching a great deal of information about sites into memory on tens of thousands of computers at data centers, why not take advantage of all those lookups while caching your own surfing habits in the process? That's quite old, and I seem to recall there was some rather important problems with it. Can't remember what they where though.

Want a faster browsing experience?

Go broadband. Change ISP possibly. And/or move elsewhere from where you currently live. Overseas if you have to.

Changing packet sizes, MTU's et al may help but mostly does not.

I would not install the software as I do not believe it will help.

pctek is right, all not very exciting.

Also keep in mind, download speeds is probably the most common reason with freeing up your phone line for getting broadband.

Web accelerators rely on pre-fetching pages liked to by the ones you're viewing to speed up loading (effectively loading pages into cache before viewing them). This works efficiently only for certain types of browsing habits.

There are serious problems with using any web accelerator with some web applications as it will happily click away at any links making a GET request even if it happens to be something highly undesirable. e.g. Delete my account (http://my.server.com/account/delete). If you were running a web accelerator and that link were real then it would happily make an account deletion request. Of course, this is why we use confirmation pages, but for some less drastic actions one may not be used.
