Apolgies in advance if this an inane query

Is it is possible to make a cd from the sound track on a musical dvd video, which is not copy protected

Yes, this is possible. You will need something capable of decrypting the DVD, and a transcoder capable of separating the audio and video streams. I recommend you use VLC for this - it can play to a file rather than your screen, and it can decrypt/transcode the audio on the fly too (you will want PCM/WAV 16Bit 44.1KHz). Then just open the resultant file in any wave editor and split it into the correct tracks.

I've used this plenty of times in the past to make audio cd's for the car off music dvd's :)

Dvd audio ripper (http://www.soooooft.com/software_3857.html)

Features:

* DVD Audio extractor, rip DVD to MP3, convert DVD to WAV format;
* Supports ripping by chapters, custom time or custom file size;
* You can rip a clip by specifying beginning and ending time;
* Output audio quality is adjustable from 80 Kbits to 320 Kbits when ripping to MP3;
* You can edit ID3 tag for your DVD sound with Xilisoft DVD Audio Ripper;
* Allows you to select a language or audio track when ripping multi-language DVDs.

I ripped them off at 196 kbits & it sounded AWESOME!!

Now that looks useful, but I notice it's shareware - what are the limitations?

Another vote for the DVD Audio Extractor :thumbs:

Bletch - It has a 30-day limit, other than that it is the full version
