View Full Version : Default File Name on first save in Word 2000

A small feature that I seem to have lost and
am now beginning to miss is the use of the
first few words (often the document title) by
Word upon first saving. I.e. those words
appeared as the default file name in the save
as dialogue box, but could be readily over-typed.

I've trawled through the help files without getting
a clue. Did that 'feature' get dropped? Or did
I lose it, but don't know how?

I speculate that the loss of that feature
occurred when I changed to Office 2000.:badpc:

Hi Perry. No real help to you - but it still picks up the first words and makes them the file name in 2003.

Hi, I have not seen this before so am at a loss as to what is causing this.Try creating a new universal template, make sure word is closed and do a search for a file named Normal.dot, make sure you go to advanced under search and tick show hidden files and folders, when found delete and then restart word , it will create a new template for you and hopefully all will be well.

Yes, I do use (and therefore have some awareness
of) a "normal.dot" template. But, I took your advice,
deleting all copies of normal.dot and went through the
re-creation process of changing margins, point size
and so on and your advice has worked.

Many thanks.

I can see that I'm going to have to think of some harder
problems! ;)
