I have a Nec DVD RW ND-1300A DVD burner.I recently boughtsome Imation blank disks with a
write speed of 16 times. My burner won't recognise them.I have downloaded the latest firmware fron NEC but it is the same as I already have installed. The burner recognises and burns 8 times ok.Any ideas.

I doubt it'll be a 16 x dvd writer.

I dont think there are any 16x dvd writers around.

It looks like it burns at 16x for cd's, not DVD's.

8x will be the maximum it'll write to for DVD.

Hi Speedy,I don't want to write at 16 just want the writer to recognise the disk so it will write at 4 which I think is it's top speed.

I would get 4x blanks then. 16x maybe too high.

Thanks Speedy and PCTEK,I bought the 16's by mistake and thought I may be able to update my firmware to recognise them not necessarily to write at 16,Regards,Max.

It doesn't matter if you buy disc's that are rated higher then the burner as the disc's are backwards compatible with slower burners and will only burn at the burners max speed. More info here (http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html)
Does the burner reconise other blank disc's, are they the correct format for the drive.

Hi Plod and Zippity, thanks for the replies. It writes okay on other disks just wont recognise the 16's at all .Will read the info on the link you sent and see what I can come up with.
Regards,Max.
