View Full Version : Overclocking Processors

Ok, well there are questions about overclocking Processors everywhere. And there are probally a few of these threads around the place (like the one I'm about to post).

Anyway, everyone who overclocks probabally has a favourite chip maker, and most likely also a favourite model.

So my question is this; What is your favourite Processor for overclocking and why? Now I can't answer this myself because I've never overclocked a CPU. Ok I lie, I overclocked an Athlon 64 3000+ by a whooping 10 mhz once just to see how the process worked. I've been looking at overclocking articles lately and it's made me want to try it myself when I get a new computer at the end of this year/start of 2007.

These are 3 stand out things I've seen so far:

Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0ghz --- overclocked to 4.5ghz (this was with water cooling though)
Intel Pentium D 805 2.66ghz --- overclocked to 3.8ghz with a Zalman CNPS9500 air cooler and to 4.1ghz with water cooling (this one is dual core)
Opteron 144 1.8ghz --- overclocked to 2.6ghz

You would be far better to post your questions on the Overclockers forums (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/) rather than here.

I prefer AMD, I have the X2 4400+, stock of 2.2GHZ and I have it running everyday at 2.7, stable as concrete and only with an extra 0.15V.

But the Venice CPUs from AMD are the best for OCing, I have seen a 4GHz FX55...
