View Full Version : Can't open Urls/links in Outlook Express

Suddenly none of the embedded Urls/links in my Outlook Express emails will open, although they all appear normal until I click on them.

I've made several changes recently ( though none deliberately in OE) & can't track down the culprit.
Obviously a setting somewhere has changed, but I can't spot an obvious one in Tools.
Grateful for advice please from the more knowledgeable.

perhaps you have disallowed outlook express to open IE or whatever browser you use...perhaps in your firewall (provided you use a software firewall)

Your memory getting affected by the cold Laura

Thanks for the replies. guys.

Straightjacket:
No, it's not my firewall being obstructive. I use free ZoneAlarm & it has permissions granted for Outlook Express & Internet Explorer.
(I normally use Firefox, but have uninstalled it & not replaced yet)

Yes, it does seem as if OE is refusing to allow IE to open - but where do I find the setting for that inside OE?
Attachments are opening fine, by the way.

Safari:
You gave me a real chuckle there...
Yes, I'd completely forgotten that old thread - and I'll happily claim the cold as the reason why. It's preferable to admitting the memory's not what it was...

What a pity I couldn't have answered my own question in that.
But it's not attachments that are my problem now.

Thanks Straitjacket.
Your 2nd link gives me a 404 Not Found.
Your typing or my machine?

I've tried the remedy provided in straitjacket's first link.
It entails executing 5 commands in the Run dialog box.

The first 4 confirmed they were successful, but the final one failed.
It says:
LoadLibrary ("msjava.dll") failed. The specified module could not be found.

Where to next, experts?

my apologies, that link should of read http://help.att.net/docs/use/email/msole/prb_xxx_w95-3x_e-mail-links-dnw.htm?platform=none As to being unable to register msjava.dll the reason is probably that you are not using it, so I wouldnt worry too much

I realize it is not an attachment problem.
The link was giving you a fix for OE links not working.
Run the following that were listed on that thread

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll

I've run all of those, Safari.
All said they were successful. But my OE links still won't open.

Time to try straitjacket's second version...
