I'm using a Toshiba TE2100 laptop that should have onboard 802.11g, but it doesn't even show up in device manager.

Any ideas on why the onboard wifi isn't detected by windows?

WiFi uses power. Laptops "always" have a switch to turn it off when it's not being used.

Find the switch. :D

Is the WIFi a plugin card? Is the card there?

If it is there, is it turned on in the BIOS

Good idea Snoopy - I'll check the BIOS. The wifi is built into the laptop rather than being an addon card.
