i wanna buy the Us Robotics model 9107, butam not very well advised in the area of routers........any opinions about this product is welcome...........or if you could suggest another brand within this price range of $150 thats even better

go ahead (no wireless ones)............and i also would prefer if it had a firewall..........

Can't comment on the more expensive ones but I have been using USR products for a while now, am running a 9108 and it has been rock solid, its a lot easier to config than the older ones too.

I have had 2 USR 9105s and 1 9107 they were all faulty. Useing them as a strait router was ok, but as soon as I opened up the ports on them they would over heat and disconnect from the internet. Even as a strait router they ran fairly hot. I'm now useing a DSE XH1169 router which barely gets warm. Won't touch a USR router again. I would go and buy a Linksys ADSL2 router, they are cheaper than the USR ones.

I've got a 9106. It does run a bit hot. My dropped connections make a lot more sence now that I have read your post.

I've been told that the 9106 takes ages to connect, but I haven't been worried enough to compare connection times with other routers.

I play Virtual Skipper 4 online, but as soon as I opened up a port and tried to host they wouldn't last more than a couple of minutes and disconnect from the internet. Yes they also take a long time to connect to the internet after switching on, sometimes more than 2 minutes. The DSE one I'm useing now connects in about 30 seconds after switching on.

Go for a linksys - a lot of my friends have them & don't have any complaints.
