View Full Version : Memory/RAM - What does 'matched' really mean?

:) I have 2 slots for memory (currently filled by 2 X 128MB). I'd prefer 2 X 256MB at least (1GB total allowed on my machine). I'm trying to buy from online auction but it's likely each stick will be from a different source (there aren't many pairs around). As far as i hear, the more they 'match' the better.

If they are both 256MB + SDRAM + PC133... is that enough? Do they also need to be same brand, same age, other things?

Hope this makes sense and someone knows the answer,
HyperHorse!

More info.
What motherboard?

(Though 133 SDRAM suggests older, so unlikely to be critical as to make, but odd things can occur due to timings)

I wouldn't worry about being the same brand - only if you were pairing them for dual channel, which you aren't.
Just get some reliable brand PC133.
