Oh sorry a pig just flew past my window.......... when people are meant to be on either 2 mb or 3.5 mb services and they are not getting anything anywhere near that. I really wouldn't hold your breath for anytime soon, possibly mid next year if you are one of the lucky ones, or a telecon shareholder.

Hopefully I will be back in the scotland soon where i can get back to my 10 mbit UNCAPPED service.

Alot of people are already on 3.5Mbps. I'm already on 3.5Mbps. my speedtest gets around 3100Kbps.

And a lot aren't because the exchanges can't cope.

you must be pretty cold at night sitting at the side of the road next to an exchange with your lapstop hooked up to it. As you seem to be one of the very very few that is getting what they are paying for.

Don't worry about 7Mbps. When will we get the 3.5 Mbps we are supposed to be getting now.

You will get infinite bandwidth, for nothing. When you deserve it.

Measured by throughput or by modem line speed? If you are really on a 3.5M plan your modem should be synching at around 4.2M to allow for overheads, then you have the problem of congestion on the link beyond the DSLAM. If your line speed hasn't or can't be lifted, you should pay for a cheaper 2M connection.

Lucky you. I'm 400m from ine and get an average of 633k.
If I was getting 2Mb I'd shut up and go download happily.

UNCAPPED serviceAn uncapped service really wouldn't benefit 99% of consumers. It means that a small number of high usage users will download 24/7 and thus you will either end up with slower speeds or ISPs will have to invest significantly more money upgrading infrastructure, and pass the cost along to you, the person that has an uncapped service but only uses 10-20GB per month. Reasonable caps, eg. 100GB per month, I agree with, unmetered or "unlimited" I don't.

7Mbps? Cool. But Canada already have residential internet with 6Mbps or more with unlimited traffic. And pretty cheap anyway for a month. The British are upgrading their internet this year or next year with faster speed than NZ. A lot faster, and allowance is still the same around 30-70GB traffic.

I thought TelstraClear already offers a 10mbps download speed, 2 mbps upload, 80gb traffick cap and it costs something like $150 per month. Though you can only get that in Wellington and Christchurch. Could someone please correct me if im right or wrong.
Cheers

Yes. This isn't Canada or Britain. You can move there if you like. Better yet the taxation would be better too, take for eg., Australia.

I think you'll find that's a tad inaccurate.

UK (not England) - land area: 241,590 sq km/population, just under 60m
NZ - land area: 269,000 sq km/population, just under 4 million
Japan - land area: 374,744 sq km/population, squillions

Either way, it's irrelevent. The population in NZ is mostly concentrated in one area (Auckland) with the world's largest city:nation ratio (Auckland has around 30% of NZ's population - Athens is next in line with around 28%) and should be a haven for fibre rollout/wireless offers/DSL options but is, instead, poorly served.

Sources: population stats: Wikipedia (mostly from wikitravel).

100% correct. I am changing in 1 week to 10MB down and 2MB up cable with a 40 gig cap for $131 with phone (broadband costing about $89 ish ). A tad expensive but the pings are also a hell of a lot better (CHCH).

If the retarded Auckland city council had of allowed Telstra to run there cables it would be available in Auckland too.

Is this story online?, as I would like to read it.

When will we be getting 7Mbps?

When they unbundled the local loop in 2 - 5 years+ time.

There are a LOT of people out there who CAN Get 3.5M ( I am one of them who can get 3.5M) & most of the people who cant get 3.5M are the ones who are connected to exchanges that can't cope & other issues, so if you cant get 3.5 its your exchange which is the problem.

as I said above its all becuase your connected to exchanges that can't cope

As I keep saying when people ask this, Any NZ ISP that provide unlimited traffic do NOT provide this for long.

Take a look at orcon as a example they offered unlimited traffic & a few months after they started offering unlimited traffic they went back to cap services, why they did this? Is because all the people who are heavy downloaders move to that ISP.

If the retarded Auckland city council had of allowed Telstra to run there cables it would be available in Auckland too.

If Telstra put there cables underground, then we would have them, because Telstra wanted to put the cables in the air, that why we donít have them as this time.

Nope. Try Backing up a 2 GB website account!, I did it once & it took be over 12 hours to complete that! & if I had faster download speed it would of took less then that.

umm boo hoo? Have you any idea the cost of that opposed to poles (where there are already power cables on poles). I have Telstra underground on my ST as there are no power poles.

If you have ugly power cables on Poles and sling another cable underneath them does it really matter?

Christchurch and Wellington have lived with it, and its not like Auckland is a pretty city lol. I am afraid that was a very backward decision, and they call the rest of the country slow!

Why do you need to download it?
I edit mine then UPload it, so its backed up before it even reaches the hosting servers....

Maybe because there is at lest 5 people doing changes to different websites in the account in any given month & half the people who do the changes donít stick around for too long (like a month or a year), that why I need to backup the account every one in a while so if any thing did happen to the web server or the company we are with we have a backup of those changes.
