hi, my friend gets random popups for dating and porn sites just when surfing anywhere, i'm guessing its a spyware thing but i installed stopzilla which seems to stop them, anyone know of any other GOOD popup blockers?

Chances are they are being served up from the machine itself, If thats the case Popup blockers will do nothing, You need to rid the machine of the installed adware.

If your mate has spyware or adware

The easiest way, is to remove the entries / files on his system.

Get him to get the file in my sig below, if he's on the net, and post the log here.

Or get S&D (http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html)

Download the 1st and 2nd file under download.

I doubt a popup blocker would fix it.

After you have removed all the spyware, get him to download firefox at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Netscape (newest version) has a pop up blocker AND also anti-virus and anti-spyware. Free.

Google Toolbar would serve as an excellent pop-up blocker -> http://toolbar.google.com/

I havn't used Netscape for years, last version I used was pre Mozilla and was horribly slow and bloated.

Firefox all the way!

NoScript extension is even better with Firefox.

yep im pretty sure they're from the machine, mozilla popup blocker does the job but it will only last 14 days and he's not prepared to fork out money for it so i'll have a go with the spyware thing... gosh i just cant be bothered right now! :waughh:

Well, as we've already said, the programs that are doing it, are installed.

So get hijackthis, or S&D, which I posted the link to, and do a scan.

And we'll either tell you what to tick in HJT. Or let Spybot, scan and u can tick the entries, so hopefully, the spyware programs / whatever get removed.
