I am having problems opening/saving office XP documents. I can open the documents on windows explorer but I can't open them through the program (ie, word, excel, powerpoint). When I click open/save as in the program, it wouldn't open any folder for me to view the files inside the folder and the program just hang.

There seems to be a link missing between the Office XP programs and My Document Folder. Can anyone advise?

Have a look at this site (http://www.officearticles.com/misc/files_dont_open_when_double-clicked_in_microsoft_office.htm) and maybe this page (http://www.officearticles.com/excel/troubleshooting_microsoft_excel.htm) for some troubleshooting tips.

If nothing there helps you may have to do a repair of Office.

Thanks. I had a look at the site and don't think it applies to my problem. Might be best to do a repair.

Did a repair on XP Office but problem still exists. I think the problem lies with Windows Explorer and not Office. Anyone has any ideas?

Also did the usual NAV, Spybot etc. on safe mode but did not find anything.

Thanks again. Just tried disabling Norton plug-in for Office. Still no luck. The problem is probably with widows explorer. Will post a new topic.

Having not read the previous links I have no idea what you tried.

What operating system? Are the files on a CD or DVD, Hard drive floppy USB drive or what?
You have Office XP. Have you checked on file associations and what applications did you install before it turned to custard?

Windows XP. Files are on HDD. Files association are all correct.

I have just found out that when I open Windows explorer to view files, there are no problems with opening/closing the files BUT windows explorer hangs when I try to close it. So I assume the problem is with Windows explorer and NOT OFFICE XP. I have google "windows explorer problems" but haven't found any fix yet.

Suggestions welcome.
