View Full Version : Missing newsgroup binary files

Until several months ago I was able to access newsgroup binary files, but recently I cannot even find any binary listing on the "List of Available Newsgroups". What is a binary file anyway? Any thoughts as to why I cannot even list any on the List ofAvailable Newsgroups?

It depends on which ISP you're with, on what newsgroups you get access to.

Your ISP may have removed some of the newsgroups.

Some ISPs have stopped carrying binary groups. Newsgroups have to be stored on a disk by the supplier. There are other, better, ways to distribute software now, and I think that many of the binary groups have been filled with porn and spam.

You could see if the Google Groups has any you are interested in.

You are lucky that your ISP carries any newgroups. They pretty much would like to stop offering usenet, as it is only a few customers who use them...

Most of the newsgroups are pretty helpful.

And cover quite a few different programs / companies.

Gigabyte/ASUS/MS (most of the versions of Windows, Windowsupdate etc), /Opera...Symantec, Paint Shop Pro, and even Photoshop.

Its a good thing to have, if you're having probs with something.

And you'll usually find an answer to a prob somewhere here.
