I require some "nasty" jokes....a mate has purchased a computer last night, and am going around there soon to help him put it together, but when i depart I want to leave a small annoyance on there for him....something that might activate when he opens something and tells him theres a virus and his computer is stuffed, or something evil like that...but still totally harmless of course :D
can anyone recommend anything?

:rolleyes: :thumbs:

The start button - I can show you how to change it from saying start to saying anything you want - without any other reprocutions(sp? You try spelling that word at 4:15PM on friday when you just wanna get out of the office)

Here it is...:

First, download ResHack here - http://www.programmersheaven.com/d/click.aspx?ID=F16956&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fdelphi%2Eicm%2Eedu%2Epl%2Fftp%2Ft ools%2FResHack%2Ezip

Then, click File>Open and Navigate to C:/Windows/explorer.exe and open it...
**NOTE: Be sure to back up a unmodified version somewhere, I put it in C:/Backup

In the Resource File, go to folder String Table>37>1033 The first line (number 578) is where the text for the start menu goes...Save the edited file as explorerfun.exe.

Next step - to have it always pull up everytime he starts his computer, you to to regedit Navigate to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>CurrentVersion>Winlogon and open the Shell Entry...change the explorer.exe to explorerfun.exe (or whatever you named it to)

for immediate fun, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, go to Task Manager, then Processes look for and end explorer.exe, then click File>New Task(run...) and type in explorerfun.exe (again, or whatever you named it)

Thats that...There are alot of things you can change, I haven't fully mapped it all out yet, but that is one of them :P

Also found that if you take a snapshot of his desktop (alt+print screen) with all the icons etc, save it somewhere (paste captured image int Microsoft Paint or something similar), and set it to be his desktop picture, then hide the icons, and taskbar.....

You get an identical desktop, complete with icons, but nothing happens when you try to click on them....

Or...
Rotate the desktop through display properties and turn the monitor on its side.
Sure to annoy the non-geeks in all of us.
Not nesscarily and April fool though.

Last night I got my e-mail newsletter from World Start and it had a link to the site too. IMO Worldstart are a good company and wouldn't be lying so I think they are safe. I'll give you the address to the article at the end of this.

I downloaded the Avoid, Fake Delete and Clippy files. They are cool because all of them can be set to run automatically from the startup folder. Other wise they will turn off when you turn off your computer (apart from the fake delete one where you would have to manually restart your computer or otherwise let it do it's thing - because it trys to finish its fake delete. There is another way to turn them off (except for fake delete) and thats to pull your mouse up the the very top left corner and then a message will come up when you do it right and will say that you have been pranked.

You can get it to not display this screen either. With avoid it is a program that when started, will not let you get near your start button it will make it jump away although you can still press the windows key on your keyboard to get it up.

The other is clippy and he is the same size colour and has the same sounds and the Microsoft Office clipply.

The only difference is that he comes up randomly what ever you are doing (he is preset to come up every 60 seconds but this can be changed as well as adding things to what he can say.) Some of the things that he says are:

*I see your computer is turned on today
*I see you are using your mouse today
*I see your keyboard is working
*You have Internet Explorer on your computer, you can use that to search for things on the internet.

Those are just some of the things he can say, although I havn't come across any other ones.

With fake delete it comes up with a message error then you press okay and then it comes up with a real looking confirm delete screen. On default it is set to say do you wish to delete C:\Windows but you can change this to whatever you like. Then even if you press no it comes up with the real windows delete screen pulling the files out of folders and chucking them in the air and for extra realiness it puts some files in the recycle bin. You are best to have this one go off at a set time because as soon as you open the file it will start to run and pretend to delete precious files on your hard drive. You have to wait until it has finished doing its think before it goes away and leaves you with the prank screen, however you can take this screen away but I don't reccomend it as you might give someone a heart attack.

You can download those here:

Avoid = http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/avoid/download.shtml

Fake Delete = http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/fakedel/download.shtml

Clippy = http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/clippy/download.shtml

Remember read the FAQ's first = http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/

To see the World Start article on it I won't post it here because it will breach copyright but here is the link = http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/2307

I wouldn't. Its not funny, just nasty. Why make him worry and perhaps contact the shop unnecessarily when he has just got his shiny new hardware?
How would you like it if I came around to repair your PC and did something like that and expected you to laugh about it.

The programs that I mentioned have a prank screen at the end of the joke, which you can turn off but as I said in my last post I don't reccomend turning it off. I believe that it would be humerous but different people have different sense of humours and I think it would be common sense to judge the persons sense of humour on weither they would find it funny or not.
