View Full Version : How to restore chkdsk boot screen in XP?

I used to get a helpful blue boot screen with white text that showed the progress of chkdsk, when rebooting after running the XP chkdsk command. Now all I get is a white progress bar at the bottom of the screen that tells me nothing, although my HD led is working. How can I get the blue boot screen back?

Many thanks!

I'm guessing it's one of these command line arguments (haven't used either before):

/V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file
on the disk.
On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any.

/I NTFS only: Performs a less vigorous check of index entries.

Thanks kingdragonfly :)
Nope, that wasn't it but no matter, I've found it. The solution lies in the file BOOT.INI. Mine had somehow been tweaked (by me, in some distant past) to not show the blue progress interface screen. By locating the file BOOTBAK.INI, deleting all instances of BOOT.INI on C drive, copying BOOTBAK.INI to C root and renaming it to BOOT.INI - that solved the problem nicely.
