My other half has just bought a new laptop ASUS Z9100L with a dvd writer.

Can someone tell me how to determine if the dvd is + or - compatible. I can't find any info that came with the machine on this. Maybe I'm going blind.

If Nero is installed you could use Nero Infotool.

Or go to device manager, see what brand/model it is, and do a search in google or yahoo.

Shouldn't matter as far as I know, either will work.

Going by the info tool it will read both, but will only write minus.

Edit:
Correction; I read it wrong, apparently it will do both.
Thank you.

Shoot me: :horrified :D
Correction again, it will read both, but will only write minus.

Most desktop drives now have the ability to read and write in both formats, I'm not sure about laptop drives. If you are still unsure, just go and buy a disk of each type and see if they work. :p

I think I need a beer, or something a little stronger.

It does write both after all.

Now I'm gonna run away and hide.

You'd be best posting the drive make / model so that we can look up the specs for you.

Theres a good chance it will READ both formats, but most writers that Ive seen in laptops are only DVD-R/W writers, not +.... Theres no gaurantee, you cant just _assume_ it'll write to both!
