Whats the easiest way to connect my laptop to my desktop comp to transfer files.

If both the laptop and desktop have NIC's (network interface cards), then a simple crossover cable between the two will do the job nicely.

Large USB memory stick .. seems to be the easist to explain to people. As an added bonus, they might even backup important files to it.

Where would I find if they have these NIC cards onboard..

D/Top..XP

At present I use a flash drive, but to much double handling. Ideally I'd like to turn the laptop into an extra hard drive, just by plugging it into my d/top comp. The laptop is used solely to store photos I take.

If the laptop has a NIC it will have a connector similar (but 2 pins wider) than the modem connection.

Same for the desktop, but a NIC card for a desktop is anly about $25 from Dick Smith anyway.
