Hi all...My problem is that I have a Dell Dimension 4300s stock, purchased around 3 years ago, and it is the kind with the space saver case. I am looking for a directx 9 compatible video card that I can use in my system, but so far all my searchs online have come to no avail.

can anyone help? Is it even possible to find a low profile directx 9 compatible video card for my system?

Yes. It sure is.
Sell it and buy a real PC...

Actually I'm not just being nasty about "brand" PCs - you're wasting your time trying to improve the graphics in it.
The new graphics standard is now PCI-Express, while there are still plenty of AGP cards, they are now more expensive than the PCI-E equivalent. ANd of course you'd still have to have an AGP slot to be able to use one of thses cards.
So at the minimum you'd have to chnage your motherboard....

If it has got an AGP slot - have a look either on Pricespy or Trademe, depending on your budget.

if cannot find it and want it cheap. if the motherboard is ATX standard design then just buy a new case. You can even use the same power pack if you wish too. Then buy a standard AGP graphics card. For a 3yr old PC get a Geforce 4000 series should be fine I would avoid the MX 440. They about $80 on trademe not v easy to obtain thou, I saw one last week and none now. Series 5000 is a bit too expenisive for your PC. Modern ones are far too much for it.

Those cards are AGP 8x but will be fine on 4x. I think 4x AGP is not seen a bottleneck yet from the reviews I read of the card such as a Geforce Ti 4200 128MB. Not sure how it is seen nowdays as all the cards are either tested on all 8x AGP port or PCI Express so no real way to determine if the AGP port is a bottle neck or not but in the days of Ti4200 4x was the sweet spot, going to 8x AGP port didn't get big benefits at those days.

Just had a look at drcspy's link and refined it to NZ and added a search string of GeForce and ATI.

Geforce here (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=low+profile+agp+4+geforce&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryNZ)

ATI here (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=low+profile+agp+4+ati&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryNZ)

Trademe here (http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/listings/listings_search_results.asp?searchtype=GENERAL&searchstring=agp+low+profile&go.x=0&go.y=0&searchregion=100)

Ebay here (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=unknown&sbrftog=1&fstype=1&from=R10&satitle=agp+low+profile+&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=)

I say have a look on trademe. These cards given its AGP and its low profile is a niche market, prob gonna be $$. But you can compare to the NZ stores, eBay is also be worth a look. Intl post thou.

Assuming u want it for games for DX 9. Stick with Nvidia or ATI but those I seen are quite limited on low profile like MX 4xx models, TNT, etc. Its not a bad decision to buy a new cheap case for $60 about then dump ur old guts into it and get a full profile vid card like a GeForce Ti4200. I head from someone on this forum on med quality some games like FEAR is still playable. Got me twitching when bro has a all in one mobo and he is a v casual game player.
