View Full Version : Class Installer Error Message Means What?

I have a "Genius VideoCam Slim 2.0" which is a USB v2.0 cam.

On my previous Soltek MB, which was USB v1.1 only, it installed & went OK.

I now have a Foxconn MB, which supports USB v2.0
The BIOS is configured to run USB v1.1 + v2.0

When I try to install the cam, I get this error:

"Cannot install this hardware.
Webcam USB 2.0
an error occurred during the installation of this device.

The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device."

I tried Googling but could not find anything helpful.

What does it mean by 'Class Installer' & why is it stopping the install?

XP Pro & am the administrator.

Hmm on some sites thru Google, some people have fixed this error by going into the registry and searching for the name of the cam (in your case Genius VideoCam), and deleting these entries. Then rebooting most probably.

Then reinstalling the drivers again.

Thanks, I will try that.

Well .... would you believe it!
Before I did anything, I thought I would try one more time in install the webcam (tried 10+ times already, every way I could) and the darn thing installed.

I am glad it did but it leaves me no closer to understanding why it would not install all those times & what the error message means.
I think I will Ghost the partition so I have that to fall back on in case it goes nutty again.
