Greetings, I have a video on my computer that is 700mb in .avi format. I wish to view it on my Panasonic NV-VP32 Series DVD Player/Video Cassette Recorder.

In the manual it says SVCD and Video CD formats can be played:

"CD-R and CD-RW discs
This unit can play CD-R/RW (audio recording disc) recorded with CD-DA, Video CD, SVCD (conforming to IEC62107). MP3, WMA, or JPEG, Finalize (a process that allows play on compatible equipment) the disc after recording."

I burnt the video in its .AVI format to a CD-R and the DVD player said it could not read the disc.

I converted the .AVI to .MPEG and the file size increased from 700mb to 982mb, so I cannot fit it onto a disc unless i cut some of the video out.

I split the video in half (500mb each for two discs) with "Easy Video Splitter" and burn the 1st half onto an empty CD-RW. I put it in and no luck either..

Can anyone help me get this working, I'm newby to this department of data.
Just want to play movie on tv. and dont reccommend video out plz! lol thanks. james. +Dont tell me to get a DVD drive for pc :P

The only thing with vcd is, its crap, the quality isnt that good.

You need something to convert the AVI file to VCD format. (like Nerovision, or a Ulead program).

You cant just copy the AVI file as is, to a cd. And assume it'll work. It wont.

And if you do burn it successfully, and find that the pic quality isnt that good, the only thing you can do is buy a dvd burner, and use blank DVD's.

is VCD format the same as MPG? i was told so. if not then ill get nero and give it a try. Because MPG didn't work either.....although it was split into two files. shouldn't make a difference

VCD's and SVCD's can be burned to CD's.

You can use Nerovision to do a VCD, it compresses/or squashes whatever the original file format is, so it'll fit on a CD.

Mpegs fit on a DVD. They're similar, but MPEG has better picture quality.

Info on video cds here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_CDs)

Super Video CD here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SVCD)

And Mpeg 2 here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-2)

It doesnt matter what the original file is, if its AVI, and you want to create a VCD, or SVCD, it needs to be converted then burned.

The same goes for MPEG2. It needs to be converted to DVD format, then burned to a blank DVD to work properly.

What program are u using to burn it to cd?

Get / Use a program that will convert while it burns to the cd.

Instead of converting it first, then trying to burn it.

Or try this free program (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/)

I dont know how good it is, I've never tried it.

The best program for converting to vcd is TMPGEnc.
It's a free program and does a excellent conversion.

You can download it from here....
