You need MsOffice, or a free spell checking program from somewhere, or a file called csapi3t1.dll, which goes in

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

I think this file is in one of the XP cab files on the XP cd.

Or if you havent got either, send me a pm and I'll email the file to you.

thanks but it seems my problem is that i don't have a spell checker at all as i have no recent version of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works
as desgribed "The steps described above will only enable spell checking in Outlook Express if you have a recent version of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works"
and as i dont use any office prod i am not likely to go out and buy one
any more suggestions
perhaps a free spell checker prog
thank you

Just fudge it, It all advances the language.

Hell, if we only stuck to how it was done in the old days we would only have 3 words....

A technical question.

How did walla in Post 9 become voila (correct French) when quoted in Cicero's Post 10 - with no sign of an edit?

How would you know if the quote was edited though? See above...

Hmmmm.
Well, as you can see, there are still tricky wee things I don't understand in this forum.
And the boxes are a bit complex for my simple wants. When I edit, it shows.
And Friday night's not good for experimenting.
SO - obviously you're going to explain, aren't you?
Please.

P.S. I usually get a wee extra when I add wee extras like this later. And it never occurred to me I could edit someone else's post..

Don't worry, U2
I'm thinking the words Jen wouldn't let me say...

And the Friday night brain may be OK to experiment for myself on Saturday.

There is no secret Laura, as when using the "quote" button you are creating a new post, not editing an existing post. So all text is available to be changed at will. Even the "quoted" text.

Thanks for saving my Saturday brain for other things, gf.
One more tiny piece of personal software has been downloaded to its hard disk.

If I may return to the original topic I have the same problem But I still have not cured it. I have downloaded ieSpell and checked csapi3t1.dll is installed and I can now spell check in Internet Exp but the spell check function is still disabled in Outlook express and I cant turn it on.
