Hello. Ive been having a big clean up on my HDD lately, making room for all the xmas computer goodies. Anyway, Im trying to un-install an old game (Enter The Matrix), but I get a windows error message that says:

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\070 1\Intel32\Ctor.dll

Cannot find specified module.

Ive looked through the game discs but I haven't had any luck, Ive tried opening the folder in run, but that doesnt seem to work either. Any pointers?

Edit: Ok, I had a look around and managed to track the file down, I copied it, and the other files in the directory, made the file pasted them in the folders they were supposed to be. Now I get this error:

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9251/error8qs1.jpg

Ive done all that it says, but no luck.

You may have this (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.remotekey.html)

Check your hdd for the files on the symantec site. And follow the info, from the symantec site.

It looks like Hotbar (adware/spyware), also uses ctor.dll.

No, I dont think I do. I looked through the registry, and those two reg values I have to delete, are not in the registry.

Get this (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip)

Unzip it into its own folder, run it and do a scan, and copy and paste the log here. We'll soon find out

This is a bad guy...kill him in HJT:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Entries should be fixed immediately and then run Crapcleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to get the crumbs out.

Ok. Reboot into safe mode, turn system restore off for now. Then tick the following entries. Tick fix checked. Then reboot.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe

O1 - Hosts: 222.153.247.182 l2authd.lineage2.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

This isnt nasty, but it acts like spyware.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\ CurrentVersion\\Run] windowsupdate.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Sp2 Personal Firewall] rzgagezkwfs.exe

Have you got ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) ?

If you havent download it, then run it, and then go to tools/uninstall. Then click on save as text file. Copy and paste the programs in add/remove programs here. We'll see whats in add/remove programs.

Or go to add/remove programs, and take a snapshot (prt scr on the keyboard), and paste it into a graphics program. Then upload it here (http://imagef1.net.nz/upload/) (reply in the forum, with the link to the pic).

Hmm those entries look ok to me.

I would uninstall both versions of Java.

And get the latest here (http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp)

I would uninstall Cleancache, and Cachepal, coz ccleaner does the same thing. What you could do is, if the folder for The Matrix, is still in program files, delete it, then run ccleaner, and click on issues/scan for issues, and it'll remove the entries etc for Matrix in the registry etc.

No worries :)

I would also get the update/hotfix for this

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

Which is here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A8F5654F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en)

And version 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en)

Is out now too. BUT I dont think you'll need this. BUT if you do get Version 2, DON'T uninstall version 1.1. I found this out.

Even tho v2 is a later version, programs that need version 1.1 of this wont install, or run!

I have this same problem - this time with Rome Total War and the Alexander Add on. Can anyone help me to determine how to fix this? I tried putting the ctorr.dll file into the directory that is missing but it didn't help.

Please let me know what I should do. Thanks in advance!

I found an easy solution. I still had the CD and just right clicked to open the files on the CD and double clicked setup and then 'uninstall'. Sorry for the trouble.
