View Full Version : Autohide not working for Taskbar

I recently reformatted, reinstalled Xp, everything going fine apart from one annoying feature, the auto hide for the taskbar will not work no matter what I do. I have ticked "Hide inactive icons" in properties for taskbar. Nothing I do seems to make any difference. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

right click taskbar, click properties, place a tick, in auto hide taskbar,
click, ok all the way out.

Within that menu also.. click on customise, then hide any icons you dont want to see.
Click on the icon, and select always hide

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have done all that and still nothing happens.
Normally there is an arrow on the lefthand side of the taskbar, that is not there and I presume "Hide Inactive Icons" won't work until the arrow appears.

Are any of the icons actually "inactive"? Try changing the systray icons to always hide for each of them and see if the tray arrow appears.

find ure prefetch folder open it and delete the contents, and restart .this will cause xp to rebuild the file of icons and may fix the problem.

Thank you very much Jen. I did what you suggested and it now works perfectly. Very much appreciated. I had tried everything and nothing worked.
