The appcompat.txt Tells you where the problem is with the game or what ever is causing it to crash.
Check thru the txt file for dll names to see if you can track what is causing the crash.

http://ntcompatible.com/thread25498-1.html
If you are using xp Click start then run in this box type sfc / scannow, there is a space after sfc . This will run the windows file checker and will ask for your install cd if it finds any thing amiss.
Have you run a anti virus scan and spyware scans just in case.

Spyware scan

Trendmicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)
Panda

Bitdefender

Symantec

Have you tried uninstalling the game and installing it again??.
What version of directx have you is it updated
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx
Try the directx diagnostic tools
Click start then run in this box type dxdiag and run the tests there.
When it crashes bring up task manager and see what processes are running as it could be one of these that is causing the problem also.Write down what is running and go thru them here to see what they are.
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

There are a few forums around for this game This is only one.
http://www.forumplanet.com/PlanetGrandTheftAuto/index.asp

Hows your video card go to the makers web site and see if there are any updates for it etc.

I think i have figured out what is wrong with my system.

After I tried most of the stuff you told me to do i decided to start my computer in safe-mode and run my virius scan there just in case i had a boot virius so while i was runing my anti-virus i decide to try my game in safe mode....It got an error, but a different kind of error it actually told me what was wrong. The game could not detect a sound card. this confused me because while waiting for my scan to complete i was listening to music on my computer. So I was going though my start menu and went into RockStar games->Gta san andres and saw the readme file. Like anyother person i decided not to read the readme after i install the game. so i began to read the FAQ and here is what i found.

Q: I don't have a soundcard in my PC (or I don't have the drivers for my soundcard installed) - Can I run GRAND THEFT AUTO: San Andreas on my PC?
A: GRAND THEFT AUTO: San Andreas requires a soundcard to be present, and will refuse to run without one.

I checked my Sound card and I found out the driver was not digtally signed and so it was not as the minimum hardware requirements stated "DirectX9 COMPATIBLE Stereo Sound Card. :o

So Do I need to get a new sound card??? :help:
(FYI.The Drivers I have are the only one out for the sound card)

Or could it be another problem??? :help:

Thanks in advance for you answer,

If a driver says it isnt digitally signed, it doesnt mean it isnt working.

It just means it isn't, I suppose certified by MS to run on XP.

BUT, it'll work whether its signed or not.

Just as long as a driver is installed, and there's no X ? or ! beside the soundcard entry in device manager, it should be working (well, obviously, its working, if u hear sound)!

Cant say, I've heard of a DX 9 soundcard. Only a DX 9 Videocard.
