View Full Version : Clicking hyperlinks ist now verboten on this computer!

Well, as the subject line says, somehow this fascist PC has taken it into its head to forbid me from accessing hyperlinks in documents and emails... When I click on one it says (with the usual ghastly Microsoft sound alert):

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

This kind of ignores the fact that I Am the system administrator (of sorts).

I have no idea why this thing has started doing this and cannot find a way to loosen its stays a bit. Can someone please assist?

WinXP Pro/Firefox 1.0.7/Office XP Pro.

May be tied up with Internet Explorer as well. It's tenticles run deep into the system. Easy to do and eliminate this cause. MS article (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q310049)

No why didn't I think of that!!!

Thanks drcspy - that has worked after a reboot, but it has had some other 'surprising' results! .doc files are now opening in Wordpad etc, so I guess I have some work to do!

Thanks again.

John

Thanks pheonix. Too late she cried, as she waved her wooden leg. I did the other thing. I should have thought to search Microsoft. Thanks.

Try the solution from a previous post.

Thanks SG. That solution is the one in the article posted by pheonix. I had already used the solution proposed by drcspy. That fixed the problem, but I have had to re-set a few third party file associations as a consequence of that fix. Thanks again.
