View Full Version : .NET Framework and welcome screen annoyance

Hi all,

I downloaded M$ .NET framework 1.1 from the Microsoft Update site last night, as a program I needed to use (iPodRip), required it to run. Now when my comp boots up, I get the screen to click the user who I want to sign in as, and only one choice, which is annoying as it's something extra to do at boot, which didn't used to be there.
Also used to take me to the welcome screen after screen saver, just realised how easy that is to change :)

Is there anyway for it to sign me in automatically on boot, short of uninstalling the .NET thingy?

Running XP Home, SP2 etc etc

You can tell Windows to log in automatically.
Goto Start - Run and type in

control userpasswords2

then click OK.
Select the username that you want to log in with from the list then untick the box at the top and click OK.
Then a screen will come up and ask for the password to use for autologon.

Yeah but I have heard of that causing problems with some people

What sort of problems?
I've done this on many PC's, mostly ones that have ATI cards as they need the .NET Framework installed, and not had a single problem.
