If I have a hard drive with a 40 wire cable and my new motherboard comes with 80 wire cables, which do I use?

The 80 wire cable ( the one with the blue connection, that goes on the mobo end).

It'll be better than the 40 wire one.

Ok, my friend Google and PCGuide (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html) have answered the question:

"Aside from the above, the cable can be treated the same way as a 40-conductor cable. Since it is of higher quality, it can be used in place of a 40-conductor cable in older systems without any issues. However, it does not directly replace a 40-conductor cable select cable. How old is the HD?, the fancier IDE cable will make no difference to an older drive, if you only have the 40 wire cable then use it, can't hurt, Though I personally wouldn't.....
