If a phone double adaptor is used in one phone wall socket, with the modem plugged into one side and the phone into the filter on the other side, can they both work simultaneously?

Up till now I've had them in seperate wall sockets.

Thx

No problem with that.
The rule is that the ADSL modem/router connects directly to the line, and any telephone devices have to be through a filter.

I would guess so, you can get double filters with phone/modem out

I thought both the modem and phone needed to go through the filter?

Only the phone.

No problems there, I have the ADSL cable and the phone line connected to the same jack point through a filter and both work fine when I'm talking on the phone while on the internet.

Adam, probably you are thinking of the filter that you plug in and it has two sockets in it, one for the modem, and one for the telephone. Inside the filter, that modem connection is connected directly to the line.

The ADSL signal is higher than the Telephone signals, so the filter is to stop the signal getting into the phones. This is two fold, in that it stops the ADSL signal level being dropped by the telephone devices, and some telephones can get a static noise in the ear while using the phone.

Thx folks, was hoping this would be the case cos the other phone sockets are too far away for me to have a phone at my desk.

Why didn't you use the experimental technique, Greg. Plug it in. If it works, it works. (As has been remarked, it should.)

Why didn't you use the experimental techniqueObviously because it meant going out and buying the adapter which is a waste of time and money if it didn't work.
