Overlays are usually installed when the BIOS cannot detect the full size of the hard drive, so removing the DDO could cause problems.

The instructions for removing Maxblast DDO:

http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1360&p_created=1045062161&p_sid=gY1O2AQh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9NCZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y 9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wY WdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1yZW1vdmUgZGRv&p_li=&p_topview=1

and for Seagate are here:

You should make a complete backup of all data, and run check disk first.
