Does windows XP require drivers inorder for card reader to operate?

I have a card reader that doesn't have a name and I can't find the driver for it..

Can anyone help?

Is there a generic driver?

Need more information. What is the model / brand of your card-reader?

All card readers I have installed have been USB under WINXP SP2. The reader gets picked up as a mass storage device and will show up as removable drives.

If the above advice doesn't help, you may need to get the drivers. Maybe Everest (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/System_Analysis_Utilities/Lavalys_EVEREST_Home_Edition.html) may be able to identify the card reader.
Then browse on over to DriverGuide.com (http://www.driverguide.com/) and search their extensive database of drivers. Its free to join up and they don't spam your email box

Elephant is correct, just connect your Card Reader (presume it uses USB) and WinXP will automatically detect the device. You will find it listed under My Computer as a removeable Mass Storage Device. The drivers that are included with the card reader are for non-XP OS's and also give additional features such as which device is the CF slot, the SD slot etc under My Computer if it is a multi-card device.

Yup I use an internal USB 2 card reader here. On XP.

I think the only thing the install did, was install icons for it, so I know what drive is for what slot.

And when u run My computer, it shows the icons for SD/MMC/MS/SM and CF cards.
