Which is the best? Purely a matter of opinion. Either brand will do. Overall one is as good as the other.
In your case the first thing you should do is double your system ram. You wont play many games with only 256 megs.
A mid range video card with 128 megs should fit in with the rest of your computer.
I prefer the ATI card, because I have one. but I would be just as satisfied with the Nvidia one.
I would suggest a Raedon 9800 pro. About $400.

Yikes 32 meg?

And I thought mine was a crapper (64 meg)

I hear alot about Geforce being better, although I'm not sure personnally.

I would suggest getting a 512 RAM, (about $50) And going for a Geforce 6800. Or an ATI Raedon 9800.

It depends on your budget.

Both make good cards but if you are bying in the $400 range I would definitely go for a GeForce 6600 GT. Whips the pants off a 9800 pro and is cheaper.

Hold on fellas we don't even know his motherboard details. Might only be AGP 4x in which case it would be a waste to put a high end card in there.

Personally, I think my 9800pro is great, had no problems apart from the power cable at the back being a bit dodgy, gives great FPS's in Half Life 2 :P ... so ... ATI!

Well my agp is 8x and I think it will hold any type of graphic cards. And thanks very much for your suggestions!

Be careful that you don't buy a PCI-Express card by mistake, thinking it is an AGP because it won't work.

check out www.pricespy.co.nz there is a 6600gt 128mb agp 8x really cheap on there,$281.25.
So yeah with your system and 512 mb x 2 of ram it would be sweet as. :D
