View Full Version : Installing Dual Monitors on Laptop running Win ME

Our church has an older Acer travelmate Laptop that we are trying to set up to run our songs through a digitial projector. We are using Microsoft Power point. Our minister has purchased a program called Power preview which requires the use of 2 monitors. One to show the song we are currently singing and one to set up the next song.
The problem we are having is that both monitors show the same song. When I go into slide show I get about 10 seconds of the preview of the next song.
I can't seem to get the laptop to recognise the second monitor as a second monitor. I have deleted the program and reinstalled it in case the person who originally set it up had left something out but even doing that does'nt help.
Can any body out there help with how to set up the dual monitors. I have had a look a the KB on Microsoft but came away even more confused than I am know.

Depends what video drivers its got on it.

If the Nvidia drivers are installed. Click on the desktop / properties / settings.

Does it show 2 monitors here??

Thanks for your quick response.
The laptop is running a Neomagic MagicGraph 128XD video card with 2mb ram.
Have downlowded the latest video drivers I can find from the acer site as well as having had a look at driversguide.com to see wether or not there were any later drivers. I had a feeling that this could be the cause of the problem but still don't know who to overcome the problem.
Thanks again,

Has the laptop, got a connection for an external monitor or projector??

If so, what kind of connection is it?? 9 pin? A normal videocard adapter?

For dual-independent display you need a laptop with a dual controller video card able to supply independent-content video feeds to each monitor.

This Thread (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=54585&highlight=portege) describes my successful search for similar answers for my Toshiba laptop, and hopefully you will find the key backgound information you need to produce the result you require.

The 7th post up from the bottom describes the technical requirements and also advises that ME can do the job from the OS perspective.
