It connects alright but none of my programs can access the internet incluing Internet Explorer, Ping, FTP, Msn - well you get the idea everything

Firewall: Zone Alarm Pro 4.5.530

I would update Zonealarm for a start.

And scan for spyware/worms/viruses.

try a winsock fix, download this (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html)

what happens if you dont use ZA and just the windows firewall? (its just for testing).
try to update the drivers for your modem.

The fact is you need all the protection you can get and that requires SP2.
I am of the opinion they don't just put it out for fun!

wicked, im glad you got it going now
i have just installed SP2 for the first time on my pc last weekend, and i am having a few problems too, my internet is crap too, heaps of disconnections, but i think it is a driver issue so im hunting the latest ones down. and there we go again, another disconnection. ive tried a winsock fix but same results :(
ive had these sorts of problems before and im close to by a new modem with a decent supply of drivers
