My installation of Firefox 1.0.1 doesn't always like closing down .pdf files that have been opened from a web link, even when those files have been opened in a new window, it frequently locks up and ctrl-alt-del has to be used to end both the adobe acrobat 6.0 reader, and also Firefox itself.
(in fact it just reinforces my dislike of pdf files :) )

Anyone else get this annoyance, or is it just my setup/finger trouble??
It doesn't happen with IE6.

OS WinXP Pro, SP2.

Is getting the latest Adobe reader an option?

Personally I always either get the browser to render them in html, or just download and open them from the desktop, Not that I have any real issue viewing them in their native format with my browser, I just dislike doing so.

Adobe Reader 7.0 will fix all your issues. 6 was really not a nice piece of software compared to the other versions out there, there are ways to make it start up a bit faster though, but I still had issues with that.

Thanks Metla and Jeremy. I installed the barebones Reader 7.0, and now everything is ok again, no hangups.

Like you Metla, I prefer to download a pdf to view separately, not with the browser. It always seems quicker and better that way.

Must have a look at johnboys foxit to see what it does, I like the 1MB size and the opening immediately bit in the description. Adobe Reader 7 was 12MB.

Cheers all.
