Im having this problem with my computer lately, I connect to go online and for a little while i am fine viewing which ever web site, i have both netscape and internet explorer running windows xp (latest netscape and IE progs), anyway after a while i get an error come up in netscape for which ever site it is it says for example "pressf1 could not be found please check the name and try again" and it sounds as if i am not connected, but i can disconnect and re connect and it still doesnt work but when i reboot it works, and in internet explorer i get "this page could not be found" error, does anyone know what this error is from and how i can fix it its driving me nuts having to reboot every 30 mins or so to stay online.

How are you connecting to the internet? Dialup or ADSL? When you get those errors, can you still send and receive emails?

What ISP?

That sounds suspiciously like what I had a while back .It was a problem with Orcon Internet, and teh DNS servers could not be contacted (too laggy). Contact your ISP's helpdesk

Get this http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

From here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Download this, unzip it create a new folder called HJT.

Unzip this file into this folder and run it....Then close all programs do a scan in hijackthis and copy and paste the log here. U may have spyware or something, or something has messed up your hosts file.

Before everyone runs down the spyware/hijacking path, lisamarie01 can't access emails either during this which suggests it is a ISP connection issue, line fault or modem problem.

Call your ISP and get them to walk you through checking your settings. You can also call Telecom on 123 and ask for a telephone line test to make sure there isn't a line fault.

due to it coming back after reboot i would suspect it has more to do with users pc rather than ISP, lines etc.
it could well be a modem problem, exspecially if they are on poor lines or useing a winmodem.

spyware is probely the most comman problem and will need to be done at some point so its a good place to start.

May also happen if the Email client is running and set to hangup after send and receive. May also happen if the settings are set to hang up after 20 mins inactivity or when dial up connection may not be needed.

We need more info.

What a mess you have there, spyware every where
The main problem will be new.net
Go to Control Panels/Add remove programs and if new.net is there remove it and restart and check if web sites load.
If they don't you will need to do a winsock repair and if you advise your operating system instructions can be given

I see u have Xoftspy. Is that registered and updated?

If it is registered, run it and do a scan....If it is registered it will remove most of the spyware u have. Looks like u have a few browser hijacks as well.

What Windows operating system do you have.
You should also download and run Ad-Aware and Spybot as you have other things that also need removing.

I am running windows xp and have run spybot, would prefer not to get ad aware as last time i ran that prog it deleted files i needed to run windows and stopped me from logging online lol so not a good program for me.

OK thats good. At least u can still get online!

Get this http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/153006-O03L/trjsetup.exe

from here

http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/

Download trojan remover, and install it, then update it.

The latest update is 6.3.5, database 6290

Do a scan. Then after u scan, go to utilities menu
and select reset IE Home/start page (3rd option), and reset hosts
file (4th option) under utilities.

Then do another scan with hijackthis. Post the log back here.

See if its any diff to the posts you've posted here.

Then we can continue :)

That hijackthis log (hopefully) will have less in it!

When u ran Xoftspy, did u click on remove, with the files that
appeared??

ummm... what?

If adaware did that, you obviously didn't get the offical version. Things have changed since then, and now it's one of the best programs you can get

If you don't like Ad-Aware then try MS spyware removal.

Ad-Aware is known to cause problems by being a bit aggressive and deleting files that are necessary. The instructions need to be read carefully to avoid causing more problems than you already have.

yeah luckily i have compaq restore lol and was able to restore back to earlier time, did read about the ad aware but i would have to know ins and outs of every program on my computer to know what filename to delete and not delete, some of the files that came up i wouldnt have a clue what they were and just to leave them there doesnt help either

If you don't like Adaware, theres always Spybot Search and Destroy

looks like you still have quite a few which i know spybot does remove.

about:blank
mywebsearch
C:\Program Files\Windows ServeAd\WinServAd.exe
and a few others.

make sure you have adaware or spybot (the latesyt vers) fully upto date and boot into safe mode and run them.
also run CWShredder.
if that dosn't do it then you will have to clean it manually.

tried to get the windows anti spyware thing but it wont run that validation program for some reason, tried it both in netscape and ie so i cant go any further with that.

The validation is optional. i can download it from Firefox.

I am running windows xp and have run spybot, would prefer not to get ad aware as last time i ran that prog it deleted files i needed to run windows and stopped me from logging online lol so not a good program for me.
I would get Adaware and quarantine instead of deleting.
