Greetings from the Great White North.

A while ago I found instructions to uncover a hidden Windows Messenger checkbox in Add/Remove Windows Components. I didn't write the instructions down. Does anyone know the procedure?

Thankyou.

If you want to remove it completely go here

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks2.htm#util

Go to the last menu / Utilities for XP. Select disable or remove Messenger
from Windows and OE. Download this and run it.

Voila Windows Messenger will be removed completely.

Speedy's link is probably the easiest but you could have a look at the forum's FAQ (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=50217) for other ways of removing it.

If we are talking Windows Messanger Service and not MSN or some other messaging app, go the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications in the list tree > Services. Scroll down until you get to Messanger, double click and choose "Disable" from the Startup Type drop down list, "OK" your way out.
