I decided to start a new thread as the name of the previous thread (Hostname in Gentoo) was misleading.
Here is the contents of my previous posting in that thread:

"Still can't get printer to work
/etc/init.d/cupsd start command works, get OK message.

Both local host commands give no such file or directory responses. But under printers in kde control center I notice under cups button it shows I'm connected to local host 631? And at least now I can get to the configure printers section of this application; but my printer (Epson Stylus Photo R210) is not listed, the closest it gets is R200 or R300, both of which don't work.
However on the add printer wizard my printer is correctly identified."

Since then I have made some progress, as I can get the printer to work in Open Office; as a Generic printer. But still not with KDE.
