View Full Version : cd problem

I'm having a problem with a cd writer on a WinXP machine.

If I place a cd into the drive while the computer is going then the computer does not read it - if I look at the drive in Windows Explorer it shows nothing there (although it does not say insert disk into drive).

However if the cd is in the drive when the computer is switched on and booted it can read the disk fine.

I thought the drive was faulty so replaced it with a new cd writer - but the new drive behaves in the same way so I guess the problem is not the drive but something about the computer.

Anybody got any ideas about this?

The cd drive is plugged into the second ide channel as a master and it is the only device on the channel.
