Very occassionally use the dreaded IE (5.0) instead of Firefox.
The thing has now got a new toolbar somehow. It has square coloured buttons for various links to gambling ,finance, smut, etc and even a handy one called 'remove toolbar' which of course dosn't....
how do i remove it please ?

In IE you can click tools then manage add ons ,select the toolbar you want to remove then click disable. Presuming you have sp2 installed and you have xp.
Or grab toolbar cop from here

You should be running IE 6.0 for a start.

run the usual antispyware progs and antivirus (eg adaware/spybot) and lets us know the result.

also check in add/remove, sometimes a "legit" spyware will actually have a working remove entry.

I ran adaware and spybot s&d and picked up a dialer and an alexa thingy...
trying to d/l toolbarcop but keep getting "missing DLL file"
Tried it from about 4 mirrors, used firebird with and without stardownloader, and IE with its default downloader...also right click 'save as'...
is there a way of getting a whole one !?

You can.

Download the free version of 98lite from litepc.com, or try IEradicator from the same site.

MSVBVM60.DLL

I remember having to get this dll when I was using Win98SE, also needed for Win95 when some programs are installed.

Go here:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvbvm60

Choice ty zqwerty :)
that seemed to help....

when I try to run the toolbarcop now I get
"componant mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependancies is not correctly registered, a file is missing or invalid"

I wonder if this fecking toolbar has messed with various files to stop its removal?

any further clues greatfully received :)

More than likely. Grab the missing file and follow the directions to install it here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/faqshow.php?id=8).
