What is "The background task server" & what it's do ?. The background task server has encountered a problem & needs to close. This a new message at startup I have not had before. Have just installed MS Office 2003 & don't recall seeing it before. Operating system is XP Pro & the details as follows,
szAppName:MXTASK.exe szAppVer:5.0.3.2 szModName:msvcrt.dll szModVer:7.0.2600.2180 offset:00032a16.
After closing the message box everything appears to work ok but I'd still like to know whats happening & fix the problem, the question is how do I do it ?.
Cheers, al

Hi and Welcome to PressF1 alhertz :)

The program mentioned in your error message, MXTASK.exe seems to be associated with either of these two products, VCOM SystemSuite (http://www.v-com.com/product/SystemSuite_Home.html) or Ontrack (http://www.ontrack.com/software/). They are programs which monitor processes, health and the installation of new software etc. Do you have either of these two programs installed?

If you do, it is possible that installing MS Office 2003 has thrown the program for a loop. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Utility program and see if this helps.

jen, thanks for your assistance. The FAQ's on the VCOM site had the answer & solved my problem. Removed KB890047 with referance to .NET Framework 1.1 & Office Pro 2003 and everythings OK. Microsoft & VCOM are working on the problem. A great site with good people, I will have to come back & see if I can help someone.
